Gossip at the workplace often leads to job or work sabotage. Don't give in to this behavior and avoid rumors if you can. This will not help your cause and offers more of a chance for your name to be involved in the nonsense. At best, ignore the gossip. When people come to you with gossip, stay away from it or tell them you are not interested. You don't have to make friends by hearing the latest gossip. Think of your job as your lifeline and try to make work as pleasant for you and others as humanly possible. Get a life and talk about your own interests. This way the gossip that is circulating around your job will not be that important to you anyone. You have to rise above the nonsense to excel at your workplace.
If you get caught up in nonsense gossip, then you have to ask yourself, would you even make a decent manager, or the next level up from your current position? Usually the people in the workplace who start the gossip are the lower downs and not the higher ups. They are people who most lack the motivation or will to get ahead. Don't surround yourself with this nonsense. Gossip will surely lead to sabotaging yourself at work.
